This Month’s Stock Pick!

Tuesday, 20th June, 2006

Pettit_Funds_Logo Without all that much enthusiasm, I’m going with Valley National Gases, Inc. (VLG).  Read about it here.

It’s hard to have much enthusiasm lately for the market.  It’s been a nasty couple of months that has actually impacted me enough that I’m sure I’ll have to push my planned year-end retirement back a ways.  I’m still up 7% for the year (DOW only up 2% and NASDAQ down almost 5%), but I was getting spoiled there for a while…

One More Stock Pick…

Pettit_Funds_Logo  I didn’t mention this one in my post last night, because I wasn’t sure I was going to purchase any–but I did end up buying Endesa S A Sponsored ADR (ELE) today.  You can read about it here.

It came up on my screen, but is not one of my typical purchases–hence my hesitation.  Unlike the small- and micro-cap companies that I usually purchase, this multinational electrical company has a market capitalization of around $35 Billion!

But since I’m not understanding what’s going on in the market lately, I thought that, in the meantime, this might be a good purchase for diversification purposes.

Stock Pick!

Thursday, 8th June, 2006

Pettit_Funds_Logo Ok, I’m picking M&F Worldwide Corporation (MFW).  They make licorice.  Don’t want to get into the licorice business?  Fine.  Don’t buy it.  But I’ll be “loading up” tomorrow when the market opens.  (Read about the company at Yahoo Finance here).

If you’re finding the stock market scary these days, you’re not alone.  I’ve been having incredible swings from day to day (with today not being a good day at all!).

One might have thought that catching Al-Zarqawi might have been good for the market–but, as I recall, the market wasn’t that excited about Saddam Hussain getting captured either.  Which makes sense when you think about it–catching one guy, I don’t care who it is, is not going to have much of an effect on the long-term State of the World.  (Although it would certainly be nice to catch Bin Laden–I’d be delighted to buy more stock in celebration…)

Happy Investing!
